Personally speaking, I think blogging is all about content. If you write quality content and your readers find it interesting and informative, then you’ve enlightened them. If your blog happens to also offer some sort of affiliate linking whereby the blog owner gets a commission if someone buys from a website that they originally found via your blog, then so be it. I think that “bogus” information on a blog for the sole mission of selling their readers something is easily viewed as such. With the increases in email and web SPAM, I think people are more savvy these days and better aware of what’s legit and what’s not.

American FTC against blogs and website developers
for not stating their advertising profits, or potential
relationships with advertising networks.

What are your personal ideas about how this could potentially hurt

There’s no doubt about that. I’ve had clients come to me with this same problem. Business owners know they need to have this kind of presence on the web but don’t have the time to dedicate to it. But just like a lot of 12-Step programs… admitting you have a problem is the first step!
